35th Anniversary
Messages From Alumni:From: Andrew Caddell Matthew On the weekend, I contributed $135 and challenged all alumni from 1975 to do the same. Pass that along... And I will be attending the reunion. Make sure you get all hands on deck for that one and lots of press beforehand. When you think of it, there are a pile of interesting people who are grads from that 1975 CKCU "class". Rob Braide, Chris Henry, Sheryl --- Randy Williams, Eric Dormer, Jeff Green, Derek Diorio, Neil Bregman, John Koensgen ....and many more. !!!! message from Malcolm Bromley Matt: Just a personal reflection of some CKCU moments in the first years of CKCU-FM from an original staffer. To the 'Pipes' and producers of 93.1's past and present: Warm Wishes from Victoria in the Republic of VanIsle! I had hoped to join you for the 35th to revel and reminisce, but alas, 'twas not meant to be! I remember listening to a 'home-made' CKCU cassette while 'zoning-out' in an abandoned building in France - it was a 'call' from some audiophonic burn artists far away on another continent, imploring me to re-join the Radio Carleton crew to launch 93.1 on air! 'The Loon' I were tag-teamed to pilot the all-night M and M Revue ('melts in your mind; not in your hand') for 7 hours of sonic Sunday sojourns. Later came the francophone exposés of Rendez-vous, your Pals Al and Mal hosting Waster's Choice, and the exclusive week-long live coverage of The World Symposium on Humanity produced by Mitch and your's truly from Toronto, featuring most of the superb CKCU-FM public affairs department of 1979. As for extra curricular activities, lest we forget The Blues Cruise to Montreal, Bon Voyage Harmonium to Kingston, and the M and M Revue's Christmas Cruise - an audio auto adventure into oblivion via Montreal and the Eastern Townships! To misquote an old song:"I was so much younger then; I'm wiser than that now!" Congratulations to everyone who has contributed to the FM airwaves on 93.1 over these past 35 years! In spirit I'll be with you - hope to see some of you Radio Carleton dinosaurs before our 'earthly exits'. Yours, with much affection, Mal Bromley (aka 'the Big Man').
