COME ON-BOARD!

CKCU-FM’s Board of Directors is seeking two new members: one, who is a Carleton University representative, and another who has direct links to community organizations.

CKCU is Canada’s oldest community-based campus radio station, having first hit the airwaves on November 14, 1975. As a registered charity, CKCU is a unique Canadian entity. The station is an integral part of the Carleton University community, but also serves other cultural groups with a broadcast range of about 100 km.

CKCU comprises about 200 volunteers and four staff members; all dedicated to providing an alternative musical and spoken-word choice to the mainstream Ottawa radio stations.

Members of the Board of Directors are either elected or appointed by all CKCU-FM volunteers at annual general meetings. The Board directs the financial and daily operations of the radio station in an attempt to shape Ottawa’s community with multicultural voices.

In order to join the Board, these new recruits, with substantive life and career experience, should possess at least two of the following criteria: (i) legalexpertise, (ii) fundraising experience, (iii) media relations experience, (iv) extensive knowledge of CKCU-FM or (v) links to strategic departments at Carleton University (such as journalism or communication).

If appointed, responsibilities of these new Board members will include: (i) attendance at monthly one-and-a-half hour meetings, (ii) participation in sub-committees (eg. marketing, fundraising, etc.), (iii) participation at annual fundraising events and (iv) the active promotion of CKCU-FM to family and friends. The new members can also take pride in knowing that they are helping to ensure that CKCU remains a wonderful learning environment for volunteers seeking to develop or improve their radio skills.
