What Do CKCU Volunteers do? |
| All
of the programming, and much of the administrative work at CKCU is
done by our 200+ volunteers. Any person with an interest in CKCU is
welcome to become a volunteer. We provide complete training and orientation
-- all you have to do is demonstrate that you're reliable and willing
to work hard for the station. |
| On
Air Programming |
Becoming
an on air programmer can mean a number of things. Whether it is music
you are interested in, doing interviews or maybe you would like to
create a specific spoken word program - CKCU offers you an opportunity
to be trained and use that training.
Learn to operate broadcasting equipment, how to host and create a
radio program, learn about many different genres of music & write
scripts. All that's required from you is dedication, time, the desire
to learn and ideas for a unique program.
We have a training closed circuit training studio for you to hone
your broadcasting craft. Once you've had a chance to learn how to
use the equipment and become comfortable behind a microphone, you'll
be given the opportunity to go On-Air and reach the community. Access
to media is that simple.
|
| Public
Affairs |
Public
affairs offers you a chance to reach our community. Do interviews
with community leaders, musicians, authors etc. You'll learn to write
scripts, learn to use broadcasting equipment and open up aspects of
the community that might not have a voice without you. As long as
you have the devotion and time, you can help bring a voice to the
community.
|
| Production |
| Working
in production offers you a behind-the-scenes creative outlet that
helps shape the sound of CKCU. You'll learn equipment set up, recording
and microphone techniques and use multitrack computer editing equipment.
You'll learn to create audio collages, commercial ads, full length
radio programs and record interviews. Use your imagination - the ability
to manipulate audio will be at your fingertips. |
| Administration |
| Administration
is another behind-the-scenes and very important way of contributing
to the operation of CKCU. Processing records and maintaining the ever
growing music library is a very large and on going job that requires
a lot of hands to keep up to date. Helping with the day to day operations
of the radio station is another way you can help. Hey, CKCU is a Volunteer
radio station, we need all the help we can get. |
| How
to become a volunteer |
The
first step to becoming a volunteer at CKCU is to attend a New
Volunteer Orientation Meeting. At this meeting we will tell
you all that you need to know about volunteering at CKCU, and will
help you begin your training as a volunteer. Once you do that, you
can decide which department you'd like to become involved with.
There are Closed Circuit Training Meetings
- your introduction to on air broadcasting.
You can also learn more about music and what our vast library has
to offer by attending a Music Library Training
meeting.
If you have interest in doing interviews, attend one of our Public
Affairs Workshops.
Finally, if you prefer to work with your hands and ears and have a
thing for buttons, then check out a Production
Training meeting.
Meetings are scheduled on a semi regular basis. Watch this space for
future meetings.
