Bon voyage Dick Altavista, we will miss you!

Best wishes and safe travels to Richard Parks (aka Dick Altavista) and his wife Michelle, as they have set sail to Victoria BC to be with their family. Long time CKCU volunteer, serving on our Board Of Directors, mentoring other volunteers, helping host multiple programs, but of course most notably his own popular “Both Kinds Of Music“. He was also very active in many facets or the Ottawa music community and will be sorely missed! In case you missed them, please check out the two tributes that aired last week.

New Programs on the Airwaves and On Demand.

We’re happy to share that select CKCU programs have the necessary resources to be able to produce content from home. This means fresh new programming from some of your favorite shows! You can hear new content on the airwaves during the show’s regular time slot, and via the On Demand feature online. It’s not live but it’s the next best thing as we navigate COVID-19. Check back regularly as new shows are added throughout the week. We’re fortunate and thankful to have the great team of people behind CKCU FM as we know it’s a challenging time for everyone. We’re grateful to be part of the community and your day. Thanks for having us!

Folks, amidst the current situation CKCU FM’s programming will not be as per usual. Things in the world and our city are not “as per usual”, sadly. The safety of our hosts, volunteers, staff and community at large, is of priority and we have made the decision to limit station access. We are here though! We are working to bring you different and special programming while we all get through this situation together. Tune into 93.1 FM on or online at ckcufm.com and join us. For those who can’t get enough, our On Demand archives are full and waiting! Catch up on your favorite past programs. We hope we can bring a little positivity to your (likely isolated) day!

UPDATE: Due to all the recent circumstances surrounding the unprecedented pandemic of the COVID-19 coronavirus, we feel we don’t really have much choice other than to cancel next week’s March Break Radio Camp. All other camps at Carleton next week have already been cancelled and we feel we need to follow suit.

Hopefully when it comes time for the Summer Camps, you will be able to consider us as an option then.

Roots and Rhythms still available On Demand!

Enormous thanks to Renny G (aka. Rockin’ Renny, Rapscallion Renny, Recalcitrant Renny, Reluctant Renny…the list goes on haha) for holding down one of CKCU’s flagship programs “Roots And Rhythms” for the better part of the last FIVE years! The program will go on a hiatus for a period, until we have a willing and suitable host to resume with it. However, don’t dismay… Renny will still be doing his lively general music program “Renny’s Riot” every second Friday morning starting at midnight (https://cod.ckcufm.com/programs/527/info.html) and past episodes which we highly recommend hearing (and exemplary of how to present bar-setting, thematic, specialty program) are still available from the ARCHIVE. You will find it here: https://cod.ckcufm.com/programs/93/info.htmland then be sure to follow the “ARCHIVED PLAYLISTS” link to peruse them all.
