2025–2028 Strategic Plan

Independent. Inclusive. Essential.

For nearly 50 years, CKCU has been a trusted source for independent, locally-driven media in Ottawa-Gatineau.

As commercial media continues to consolidate and cut back, stations like CKCU are showing why local, independent media is more important than ever.

CKCU Connects Communities
We train the next generation of media makers, keep critical information flowing during emergencies, and give people the tools to stay informed, speak up, and take part in civic life.

CKCU’s 2025–2028 Strategic Plan

Our new 2025–2028 Strategic Plan lays out a bold, actionable vision for the future. It’s rooted in creativity, connection, and a core belief: that everyone deserves access to media that is not shaped by profit, political pressure, or algorithms.

This is our roadmap for building something lasting, local, and powerful.

Over the next 3 years, CKCU’s goals are to:

  1. Establish ongoing and mutual engagement between volunteers and the station.
  2. Create a media hub that brings together various communities and technologies to produce and deliver high-quality, relevant content.
  3. Ensure CKCU operates sustainably by eliminating the deficit and achieving modest savings, setting a solid financial foundation for future growth and stability.
  4. Develop and expand CKCU FM’s programming to reflect its diverse community while fostering innovation, inclusivity, and talent.
  5. Implement a responsive governance structure that supports CKCU’s ability to achieve its strategic goals.

These goals are CKCU’s commitment to a more inclusive future for media in Canada. One where people, not profits, set the priorities.

Get Involved

We can’t do this alone. This plan depends on all of us: listeners, volunteers, donors and community partners working together. If you believe in what CKCU stands for, we invite you to be part of making it happen.

  • Donate and support independent media
  • Volunteer – there are so many ways to support the station
